Low Sex Drive/ Low Libido
Low sex
drive is also known as low libido. It is the lack of interest or desire in love
making. It occurs in both men and women however it’s more common in women. It
may be temporary where the patient gets over it or it may require medical
attention.
CAUSES
Low libido
is usually caused by two main factors:
Physical causes of low libido
include;
- Anaemia which is usually due to blood loss during menstruation in women.
- Disease conditions such as diabetes, cancer, chronic fatigue and chronic pain.
- Use of drugs such anti depressants, anti-histamines and birth control pills.
Psychological causes of low libido
include;

Depression;
Some people could be depressed due to state of health, economic state of
nation.
- Anxiety
about economy or living conditions.

Stress
from place of employment, family/loved ones.

History
of sexual abuse.
TREATMENT
Most times
the solution to low libido is usually in the cause which could be physical or
psychological. It’s important for the healthcare personnel to diagnose the
exact cause of low libido in the patient in order to give the appropriate
treatment.
The patients
are usually advised based on the following:

Lifestyle modification; It is very important to maintain
healthier life styles. Have a proper and balanced diet with plenty fruits and
vegetables,exercise, stress management and most importantly get enough sleep.

Medication; Some drugs can be recommended by
healthcare personnel in the treatment of low libido. It is dependent on the
severity of the case.
- Arousal creams; Arousal creams can be used in women
which is rubbed on the clitoris with its main effect being tingling sensation
which increases sensitivity and heightens sensation.

Food; Certain foods such as spinach, green
tea and fatty fish (sardine and tuna), dark chocolates have been observed to
increase blood flow and boosts desire. They make one more relaxed and also
increase libido.
